Island Hopping in the Caribbean

Interested in exploring the Caribbean Islands but don’t want to cruise? Not a problem, island hopping in the Caribbean has never been so easy! Fly between islands with Liat Airline to help you explore the island that suits you. The Caribbean has more than 28 island nations, all of which are surprisingly very different from one another. The islands speak various languages including French, Spanish and even Dutch. All the islands are unique and offer something new to see and do. Why not kick back on the soft sandy beaches in Antigua or visit the swimming pigs in the Bahamas?

You can island hop with any of the Caribbean islands however there are some that are easier to jump between. Antigua and Tobago are fantastic options for island hopping, being only an hour’s flight apart and offering one of the most interesting twin centre holidays in the Caribbean.  Antigua is great for the perfect beach stay with its 365 beaches, meaning you’ll never be more than a few minutes from clear blue waters and beautiful white sand. The island has a lot of English influences with its English harbour, sugar plantations and local cricket players. But if you want to experience a bit of culture then head down to St Johns, the capital of Antigua, steeped with cathedrals and Baroque Towers. Every year, towards the end of April, Antigua hosts hundreds of yachts for Antigua Sailing Week, welcoming thousands of sailors from across the globe for some spectacular racing and serious partying. While exploring this beautiful island you must visit the local picturesque villages and sample the fresh tropical fruit.

Tobago on the other hand is full of wildlife, with a rainforest known to be one of the oldest in the world. Filled with colourful birds,  exotic fish, and a laid-back Caribbean vibe, you will feel totally relaxed on this stunning island. Every year Tobago hosts The Festival of Lights – a Hindu celebration boasting an extravagant light display.  Tobago also holds the Trinidad and Tobago carnival, which has been hailed the largest in the Caribbean, featuring some of the most colourful costumes, music and dancing that the Caribbean has ever seen. If you’re looking for an experience to remember, Tobago is the place to go.

Another great option for a Caribbean twin centre is Barbados and Grenada. You can get between these stunning islands just under an hour by plane. Barbados is a great all-round destination, with its white sand paradise, beautiful resorts and delicious Caribbean food. If you have a passion for cricket, golf or diving, you will fit right in with the locals who are mad for sports. Or, if you’re looking to get married on a beautiful Caribbean island, Barbados is the perfect location with its picture-perfect scenery and year-round sunshine.

Grenada is an ideal location for the adventurous; the island is covered in dense forest and mountain terrain, perfect for hiking and seeking wildlife. Grand Etang National Park is the perfect setting for a tropical adventure. Grenada also has some beautiful beaches, its most popular being Grand Anse Beach, famous for its white soft sandy beaches backed by almond trees and palms. Grenada is also famous for its underwater scenery; Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park is one of the first to have underwater concrete figures – a breathtaking sight. Grenada is well known as an Island of Spice, producing large amounts of cinnamon and nutmeg. But a holiday in Grenada wouldn’t be right without a visit to the House of Chocolate – a mini museum for their locally produced chocolate.
