Travel: Did you Knows?

Travelling is one of the most popular forms of leisure around the world. There’s so much to see on this planet so why wouldn’t you want to take advantage of discovering as much of it as possible?

Here are our favourite travel facts:

  • Did you know that the biggest hotel is in Malaysia? It is called the Genting Highlands Resort which has a total of ten restaurants and over 7,000 rooms! Wow, you would need a map for finding your room!
  • Did you know that Saudi Arabia has no rivers? It’s hard to imagine that this country has absolutely none what so ever. So, don’t be expecting to get your canoe out here, keep to swimming trunks for the man-made pool!
  • Did you know that using additional salt or pepper on your food when travelling to Switzerland is considered rude? You’ve been warned people! The Swedish find it very offensive towards the person that prepared the food for you. So, if you’re travelling to Switzerland then have your food how it’s served.
  • Did you know that the River Nile in Egypt is the longest in the world? It runs for over 4000 miles! Also, did you know that there is a huge underground river that runs underneath the Nile which is six time more water than the river above?
  • Did you know that the Angel Falls in Venezuela is theworld’s highest waterfall at 3212ft? In comparison that is three times the size of the Eiffel Tower!
  • Did you know that the most dangerous animal in the world is a… housefly! Forget about big angry lions, the sharp teeth of a shark or even the long horns of a rhino – houseflies are known to carry and transmit some of the nastiest diseases, so let’s go and get the fly swatter out!
  • Do you know which ocean is the largest? No? It’s the Pacific! This ocean covers just under 65 million square miles, nearly one third of the Earth’s surface!
  • Ever wondered what the shortest flight in history was? It wasfromWestray to Papa Westray (Scottish Island) and it only took two minutes! Yes two minutes! It took longer to board the plane than it did to travel between the two locations.
  • Did you know that all the money people throw into Rome’s famousTrevi Fountain each day is then collected every night and donated to charities? It is said that on average they collect a minimum of 3000 euros.
  • Did you know that when British Airways removed one single olive from the first class passenger’s salads it saved them over $40 000 dollars a year?
  • Did you know that less than 1% of the population has visited Antarctica? Hard to believe when there’s been so much research carried out! Why don’t you become part of that 1%?
